About Me !
My name is Sheila Vargas and I am currently attending Harry S Truman High School. I was raised in the Bronx. I am really shy, it's hard for me to start talking right away unless I really want to be your friend, you'll always see me with a smile on my face, I am also a very funny person. I like spending time with my family, they mean so much to me and whatever I accomplish in life is thanks to them, they are my motivation.
Sometimes I like school because I learn new things that I didn't know of before, although taking tests and the work is sometimes challenging for me which makes me dislike school. I also like the JROTC program that I am part of in my school, I am glad to say that joining JROTC has made me become a totally different person, I now take wise decisions, I am more aware on the things that I do. Doing community service is something I like because I feel like I am helping the community become a better place. My sergeants are also so nice, and they always push me to do better and teach me that giving up isn't the idea. My favorite subject is science, it's so fun, especially when we do experiments. This school year I will be joining the softball team because I am interested in trying out a new sport, I want to try new things.

This summer I decided to be part of the EVC's New Media Arts Workshop and I am glad that I had a chance to experience what it was like. In this workshop we as a group chose a strong topic that we see in our society, which was Violence, as a group we created a website, and also created a website individually, our group website contains a short video which we had the chance to ask the people around our neighborhood some questions based on our topic and our main question "Are violent humans made or born ?" I've learned a variety of things such as creating a website, how to take pictures and make them have a professional look, and how to record videos. I also did't know how to use a Cannon or Nixon camera before but I had the possibility to learn how to, within this College Now program.
Something I like to do in my free time is to take pictures. I am a fanatic of nature. Whenever my parent's ask me to go take a walk with them at the park, I always say yes, there's always so many new things that I find out about nature and there's always so many things, I love nature so much. Nature is just so pretty. Nature inspires me and I love taking pictures of what I'm surrounded with. I always tend to take pictures of flowers, trees, and just my whole view. Not just when I go to the park it's everywhere I go, I take pictures of things that catch my attention.
EVC began with a simple idea: put video cameras in the hands of teenagers and teach them to go out into the city and craft stories about the world as they see it – with all its problems and possibilities. While the technology has changed over the past three decades, we've stayed true to our core values and mission through our after-school and summer Youth Documentary Workshops; New Media Arts Program; Professional Development Programs; and Community Engagement and Dissemination Initiatives.
About EVC
EVC
In this program we decided to create a website based on violence. Due to so many deaths going on now in days. Every day I turn on the news I always hear that somebody died, somebody got killed due to arguments or just hate, accidentally or just for no reason. Our overall purpose is to find out if human beings are born violent or made. Our accomplishment is to try and bring ourselves together, to speak up for ourselves, when we need help, speak! No more guns, no more stabbing, let's keep our hands clean !
