This generation puts both media and social justice together. Media comes from the word "medium" it's defined as "a substance or a method in which something is communicated ; it's the vehicle for a message". Social justice is the "full and equal participation of all groups in a society that is mutually shaped to meet their needs". Both media and social justice involve a community. People from around the world.

Both media and social justice almost have the same achievement. To make things better with the help of each other. For social justice people live and work together to create something better. They fight for equality. In media they use the "ability to access , analyze, evaluate, create and act using all forms of communication". Media is considered as the receipts you get when you buy something, the newspapers you read each morning, tv shows, books, video games, protest signs and much more. We bring media and social justice by trying to communicate with society in different ways.

The topic I am most passionate about is immigration. People like us don't get as much attention as other people, who aren't immigrants. We shouldn't get treated a certain way. I've seen and noticed things with my family. I usually feel bad because of the things that happen to my family because of the simple fact that they don't understand English that well. When my parents had a medical appointment, I saw how they got treated by the receptionists, they asked what were they here for with an attitude, they said "appointment" the receptionist threw the clipboard at my mom telling her that she knew what she had to do. They didn't even attend them until like the last hour that was left, I was only 7 years old, and didn't know what to really do. Now that I've grown up a bit, if I ever see my parents getting treated like that again I would definitely speak up for them. I just hope that sooner or later, we get treated equally like everyone. We always treat everyone with respect.

In today's presentations I think it went fine. We all backed up our claim, by saying our thoughts, by expressing ourselves. Although we needed to speak even louder, so that everybody would be able to hear us without telling us to repeat ourselves. When my partner and I went up, I felt like I should've talked in a voice that's going to convince them on why we should do that certain topic. When we all presented I think we did well on the experts we chose for interviews, those are people we can eventually go to. I personally would like to improve on being able to present in front of people without feeling shy or nervous. I want to be able to feel confident in myself. I'll try to improve on that, and to be able to prove my point.

Based on our final media arts project, I think it's a good topic, because it's something that happens everyday, everyday someone dies. I think that the reason violence has become a trend now in days is because of the abusive childhood experiences that people pass through. Due to what these persons see, is what makes them grow up with that same mentality and since their parents/family members did it, they think it's okay for them to do stuff like them too, they don't see the wrong side. Also before we would just hear about street fights and now we hear about stabbings, shootings, and so much stuff, it's not even safe to be outside because we never know what could happen.

My thoughts on these street interviews and production experience are amazing. This is something I've never done before. It was really nice meeting new people and finding out their opinions based on what they thought about youth violence. I did feel nervous at first because like, I was going to talk to strangers ! Like usual as I started to lose the shyness I wanted to keep on but time was up, at last I got the feeling as how a news reporter feels and is like, on the production experience it's exciting for me because I am going to learn how to edit videos and make them look nice, something that I've always been interested in.

Before I got deeper into the research process I thought that violence was just about fighting but then as we started to go into it more. I found out that there are other causes to violence. For example bullying is violence. Somebody making fun of someone else, or somebody jumping another innocent person, this causes violence. When two people argue and one of them put's their hand on the other, that's violence. A person's childhood can cause violence in the future because they grow up with that mentality, but what surprises me is that sometimes a parent treats their kid well and they grow up mean and violent, that's what surprised me because I never really thought about that. A possible reason might be because of the tv shows they watch, the youtube videos, or the video games they play with, their mentality starts changing due to these sources.

Developing ideas with my group was a nice experience because we all found out our opinions, we basically were on the same page, we thought the same. Yes we all contributed equally, we all had the chance to speak out, we all said something. The role that I took in my group is writing and drawing. I also drew, although I didn't have enough time to finish one of my drawings.

About today's lesson this is something that is not about me learning it but something that never came to mind until today, not until I read that NY times article, that if a baby grows up watching violent movies or games or watching violent things with it's family it's only going to make that poor baby grow up with that mentality, a baby at age so small is so easy to convince. Although this doesn't necessarily mean that they will be violent forever but maybe for a period of time. Watching several violent stuff might affect on how a child thinks.

On today's day we had to edit our clips on premiere, it was really cool I didn't know you could do so many things to a video, like transitions, the color and so much more effects. It was not hard at all. I thought it would be hard and confusing, but actually it's not. Although the challenging part was cropping parts of the video because you had to get the exact start time, and the end time, but other than that nothing else was challenging. I really enjoyed today I hope I learn even more on editing a video.

Our target audience should be both adults and teenagers so that they can leave with a different mindset, and not with the one they had when they were first about to read this, so that they can realize all the bad that we are doing. So that they can see the bad that we are all actually doing, instead we can change our ways on communicating with everyone, instead of involving so much violence we can try other ways to respond to certain situations like asking for help which is the main thing that we should all do.

Today I was part of the website team, me and my partners had to design our website and create a logo, we had to decide on how we wanted our group website to look. I set up the Youth Producers page which is where I had to insert the portraits of everyone in the Media Arts Program,it was pretty easy to do that, although it was tough deciding which type of gallery template we wanted to chose. Here would be an example of what I did, though there were some technical difficulties and my work wouldn't save after I reopened the page.

My memorable part of today's interview is when Dr.Rafael Mendez sat down to answer our questions, I really liked how he answered all the questions he was so specific with his answers. After he was done talking I felt more convinced and interested on the topic we are doing. Something that I learned is that he's right about us youth opening up about violence, because this is what our generation/society needs so that they can realize the bad that we are doing. Dr. Rafael Mendez inspired me into us actually creating a campaign, so that we can try and make a difference.

Based on Professor Mendez my opinion has stayed the same since the “Back Off” documentary has produced. Professor Mendez inspired me even more on trying to make a difference in this society he said that this generation needs teenagers to be the new leaders, and he’s really right about that. Us the youth we need to stand up for everyone because we are the eye of the society. I also agree with Professor Mendez when he said that the government is also providing with such things like weapons, which guides people to violence. He gave us such great advice which is “GO FOR IT” and we sure will try our best to go for it and get things done.

The most challenging thing about the process of creating our group project was the call to action, because me and my team members had so many nice ideas, but some were kind of not relating to our main question, so it was difficult finding the right one, at the end we came up with such great idea, that everybody loved. With the help of my team members we came up with a bright idea. There was a lot of thinking to do that's why it was challenging. I find it something inspirational that we are doing.
